Colt supplied horizontal Shadovoltaic photovoltaic and Prismalite prism louver systems for installation at The Green Square Complex Nature Research Center in Raleigh, NC, USA.
These devices provide shading, thereby reducing summer cooling loads, and the Shadovoltaic photovoltaic system generates electricity that is used within the building. They are set into a framework manufactured by Colt and controlled by a Colt ICS 4-Link system. Prior to installation a mock up successfully underwent a series of exhaustive life cycle tests at Colt's Havant factory.
Both the buildings at the Complex have been designed to maximize the use of natural light during the day, with the prism louver system helping to bring diffused natural light into the core of the building.
